View point: Rock Slide Northern Face of Doldenhorn

The lake Oeschinen was caused by a massive landslide following the last Ice Age at the northern face of the Doldenhorn. The lake has a surface area of 1,5 km2 and is considered one of the largest mountain lakes in Switzerland. The tear-off edge of the landslide is still clearly visible (see red line). In the background on the slopes of the Fisistock, the traces of the much more powerful landslide can be seen, which left its marks down to Kandergrund and covered the valley floor with debris of up to 400 meters high.
